About the Artwork

I got the idea of this form from the form of the bulbous bow, a protrusion found at the front of a ship.
I used the kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technique and applied 10 layers of red lacquer and 60 layers of black lacquer to make the whole vessel black.
I carved the surface and added makie decorations to the deeply carved parts using blue and red mother-of-pearl inlay and coarse gold flakes to express the flow of water.
