About the Artwork

I used the kiku-tsunagi (interlocking chrysanthemum) patterns, the pinnacle of traditional Japanese beauty, on the whole piece, making this a culmination of artisanal skills.

The kiku-tsunagi patterns are a symbol of long life, good health, and honorableness. This is a perfect piece for those who love the Japanese traditional culture.

Kiku-tsunagi patterns are usually used partially in designs, but I used it on the whole glass and delicately cut the patterns to the smallest detail.

Kiriko cut glass

Kiriko cut glass is made by using rotating grinders or diamond wheels to cut geometric patterns and curves into the surface of finished glass vessels. The patterns are evened and finished with fine polishing stones. Edo kiriko and Satsuma kiriko are especially famous.
