Basically making artwork with rustic colors, which is the original color tone of Mushiakeyaki, using ash glaze. Making various types of pieces such as those with geometric patterns using iron glaze, colorful glazed pieces made by using mixed wood ash glaze, those using cobalt blue glaze, flower vases chamfered and with ridge lines etc.
View DetailAbout the Artwork
A slender gourd-shaped vase with three ridges.
I cut the rim into a triangular shape in conformity with the ridges. The shape of the mouth keeps the flowers in place, making the vase easy to use.
I used pale blue glaze on the upper side, and traditional Mushiake ash glaze from the middle towards the bottom. The loquat color and bright green are a result of color change from firing in the kiln.
The combination of the soft and quiet color tone that you won't get tired of and the form makes this a charming vase.

Ash glaze
Ash glazes (kaiyū) are ceramic glazes made from the ashes of plants, such as wood or straw. Traditionally, these are divided into three categories: pure wood ash, which is made from the bark of trees such as oak and chestnut and has a faintly blue hue; hearth ash, which contains impurities and has a faintly bluish-green hue; and straw ash, which produces a milky-white glaze.
