About the Artwork

This bowl was made into the form of a morning glory, starting from the narrow foot, spreading towards the rim.
I applied black glaze and then drew geometric patterns with latex liquid using a brush for masking. I then sprayed on mists of red glaze and reddish-brown persimmon glaze and removed the latex for the patterns to come out.
The delicate, vibrant red and reddish-brown patterns are a good match with the calm black color. As I used iron glaze, the changes of color from firing is also a point that makes this bowl charming.

Iron glaze

Iron glaze (tetsuyū) refers to a broad category of iron-rich ceramic glazes. Depending on the iron content, these glazes can produce colors ranging from black to brown to amber. Blackish glazes with around five percent iron content are known as Tenmoku (Ch. Jian ware) glazes.
