About the Artwork
I wanted to use the masawari tabane-ami weave technique that I learned at the late Soho Katsushiro's training session in my artwork, and I worked on this piece with all my heart. I made the middle of the basket three-layered using ajiro weave on the top, a dark colored ajiro weave in the middle, and seikai weave on the back side, so that the basket would not be distorted when something is placed on it.

Techniques Used
Plaited bamboo
Plaited bamboo basketry (amimono) is created by weaving together hundreds of strips of bamboo into patterns known as plaiting (ami). Various patterns and shapes can be created by using bamboo strips of different widths or thicknesses. The many styles of plaiting utilize bamboo’s pliability to produce beautifully patterned works.
