About the Artwork
I made the main body using a technique called "Hishi Sashi Nawame Ami (rope and lozenge plaiting)" and wove an armor ("yoroi" in Japanese) with thin strips of bamboo over it. By changing the width and color of the bamboo strips used for the armor, you can feel the light both from the outside and inside of the basket.

Techniques Used
Plaited bamboo
Plaited bamboo basketry (amimono) is created by weaving together hundreds of strips of bamboo into patterns known as plaiting (ami). Various patterns and shapes can be created by using bamboo strips of different widths or thicknesses. The many styles of plaiting utilize bamboo’s pliability to produce beautifully patterned works.
