About the Artwork
This piece was made based on the "Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters)". The Sai river, a river near Emperor Jinmu's empress Isukeyorihime's home, was named after the bamboo lilies which were called "sai" in ancient times, by Emperor Jinmu when he visited her home and saw the bamboo lilies blooming around the river.
Blooming lilies are carved on the handles of the doors. I expressed the river with color lacquered pieces placed in the shape of feathers of an arrow inlaid in different directions. I considered the colors and the layout very carefully. I used blue as the base color and applied 120 layers of green and other colored lacquer. This piece makes you feel as if you can hear the sound of the stream in the myth.
