About the Artwork
I tried to express the silhouette of morning glories blurred in the dense fog on an early morning in late autumn.
I expressed the blurriness by tapping on urushi lacquer 70 times to make a white - purple gradation and lightly carved the morning glories.
I gave it a matte finish to express the tense and crisp atmosphere.

Carved lacquer (choshitsu) is made by first coating a piece in dozens of layers of colored lacquer. Then, a carving blade is used to cut into the lacquer and produce three-dimensional relief carvings.
