About the Artwork
I made a clock by hollowing high quality ebony wood, and made clock hands with red sandalwood.
For the clock face, I inlaid shells of aogai (blue-green shellfish) and 1mm thick Mexican abalones.
I chamfered the wood to adjust the shape and finished it with wiped urushi lacquer.

Techniques Used
Hollow work
In hollow work (kurimono), gouges and chisels are used to hand-carve hollow vessels from a block of wood. Complicated curves and rounded forms are a common feature of hollow work.
