The man symbolizes the sacred mountain Mt. Fuji withstanding the wind and snow. From ancient times, the people in Japan have overcome many natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons and tsunami, and I wanted to express the strength of the Japanese people in the man dressed up as an old man in Noh, a traditional theatrical art. For his black hakama (formal divided skirt), I used black whitewash and placed raised cloth pictures of pine trees. For the gray kariginu (silk garment), I used whitewash of the same color to make the raised patterns. For the kosode (short sleeved kimono), I used whitewash to make the raised snowflake patterns and gold lines for the raised cloud patterns. White mineral pigments are used for the fallen snow.

As there is always a story behind the world of dolls, I would like people to feel the story when they see the dolls. As people's wishes are put into the shape of a doll, it is easy to pass on your wishes to your children or grandchildren with a doll rather than trying to say in words.
