Amakusa pottery stone (amakusa toseki) is a stone used as a raw material for ceramics, mined in the Amakusa region of Kumamoto prefecture. It contains minimal impurities such as iron, and is particularly known as a raw material for producing beautiful white porcelain. It is used in many high-quality Japanese porcelains, including Imari Ware and Arita Ware.
