About the Artwork
This chair, with a design like a harp with several strings and a dark brown color that looks as if it has been used for many years, is very comfortable to sit on.
Generally, when making a chair, you think of the design first. However, it is quite common that the chair cannot be made exactly as designed. This is because if you prioritize the practicality of a chair that you are sitting on every day, it is technically not possible to make a chair with a "good design".
High level skills are necessary to make a good wooden chair because the wood becomes dry and thin after bearing the weight of people every day for decades.
Because a chair is full of high level skills and it takes much time and effort to make a chair, it is quite unprofitable.
However, I have been making and selling chairs through a chair specialty store for decades, so my skills are guaranteed. Although making chairs is not profitable, I make them simply because I like making them.
Same as my other artwork, I did not add any colors to this piece.
Persimmon wood is usually white, but very rarely, black patterns appear. We call this black persimmon wood. This piece is not regular white persimmon wood, nor black persimmon wood, but a very rare chocolate color. There are both white parts and black parts as well, so you can enjoy different kinds of persimmon wood grain in this one piece.
I used traditional wood joinery techniques, and polished the wood parts where people will sit on and touch to have a smooth and shiny texture. The back side of the seat is also smooth. No metal parts have been used where people touch, so the texture is very nice. I know from my experience that people touch different places when they are sitting and relaxing in a chair, so as a result, I thought I would make the whole chair with a nice and smooth texture. Please try and feel the smooth texture for yourself.
I used some metal fittings in the middle on the back of the seat to increase the durability and safety of the chair. (But the metal fittings are only used where they are not visible, so please don't worry.)
The back of this chair is slightly high and gently angled like a rocking chair, so it is quite popular among men and tall women.
It is a perfect chair that can be used for years to relax while listening to music or watching a movie.

InstructionsAs a transparent coating is applied, this chair is waterproof.
However, please avoid sudden heat (placing under the heater, near a hot kettle or iron kettle etc.) or use of sharp blades, hammers etc. as this may cause damage to the wooden body. Please also avoid nail polish and other chemicals as this may cause the coating to peel off.
Please be aware that wood expands and shrinks depending on where it is used as it absorbs and releases moisture even after being processed. For example, even by moving the chair among nearby regions in western Japan, a distortion may occur as the humidity is different.
The distortion is very small, but this may cause a slight defect.
Please be aware of this as it is the nature of wood.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Techniques Used
Wood joinery
In wood joinery (sashimono), wood boards are cut into panels with care to how the grain patterns will fit together in the final piece. The wooden panels are then cut or carved to create interlocking joints. These joints, which are the key feature of wood joinery, make it possible to connect boards at right angles to produce boxes and other articles. Wood joinery is assembled without the use of nails or any other metal hardware.
