About the Artwork
There is a beautiful butterfly called the chestnut tiger butterfly that amazingly travels from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, and even all the way to Taiwan.
I imagined what the butterflies might have seen, such as the starry skies at night and the paradise that they arrived at, and expressed this with the carvings and gradation of colors.

Techniques Used
Carved lacquer
Carved lacquer (choshitsu) is made by first coating a piece in dozens of layers of colored lacquer. Then, a carving blade is used to cut into the lacquer and produce three-dimensional relief carvings.
