About the Artwork

1. Think of the form and design
2. Forge copper material (spin to make round pieces)
3. Apply opaque white glaze on the base and fire at 800~900℃
4. Copy pattern onto base
5. Set the wire lines to form the patterns using special tweezers and scissors and temporarily attach with glue. Fire.
6. Paint the design after preparing the colors based on the design. Fire 3 to 4 times at 800~900℃
7. Polish with 4 or 5 whetstones of different coarseness to make the surface smooth
8. Cover the rim with a silver ornamental bordering
9. Finish the surface with beeswax

Techniques Used

Wire cloisonné

Wire cloisonné enamel (yūsen shippō) uses strips of silver wire to create partitions between areas of differently colored enamel. This is the basic method for producing cloisonné enamel ware.
