Comment on Award

People were enjoying the scene of Humboldt penguins tottering like clowns and swimming in the aquarium as if they were flying in the sky. A few years from this day, I started to make this box, but time passed in vain as I struggled with the lacquer painting, and I had to return to my hometown Noto. I named this piece "Nostalgia", which was my feeling at that time. I don't think penguins have such feelings, but I believe they have memories of the place where they were born.
