About the Artwork

A box with stripes and ajiro weave patterns. I expressed the ajiro weave patterns with marquetry. I created an optical illusion using Jindai cedar wood (cedar wood that has been in the ground for more than 1000 years) and Jindai zelkova wood to make it look as if it were a real ajiro weave with gaps. I inlaid pink ivory, satine, blackwood, magnolia, Yakushima cedar, boxwood, lacewood, and ironwood for the stripes. I hope you will enjoy these two different patterns.
