About the Artwork
I applied 3 different kinds of small dot patterns to the sharkskin pattern and changed the density of the colors to create a look with depth.
I then used 114 paper stencils to dye the base in different colors to finish the whole design.
I think I was able to create an image of a beautiful coral reef sea that draws people in.

Edo komon
Edo komon (literally “Edo small crests”) developed during the Edo period (1603–1868) as a finely detailed decoration for kamishimo, a piece of formal attire worn by samurai. Later, the style spread to commoners’ kimono as well. Historically, Edo komon is dyed using Ise stenciles (Ise katagami).
