About the Artwork
This is the first time for me to make a piece in urushi carving.
I painted several coats of blue, green and white, about 60 times.
It was difficult to carve while adjusting the colors that I wanted to show. I'm glad to have been able to create a deep color.

Techniques Used
Carved lacquer
Carved lacquer (choshitsu) is made by first coating a piece in dozens of layers of colored lacquer. Then, a carving blade is used to cut into the lacquer and produce three-dimensional relief carvings.
