About the Artist
Opening Up the Future of Cut Glass with Refined Techniques
Edo Kiriko (cut glass) is a traditional craft of Tokyo with a history of approximately 200 years. Ikuko Ogawa grew up in Koto Ward, Tokyo, where the traditional techniques have been passed down for generations. After graduating from university, she studied under Hideo Kobayashi, a leading expert of Edo Kiriko. Succeeding her master's techniques and spirit after 9 years of training, she creates artwork that goes with the times while preserving the tradition, and is blowing in a new breeze to the world of Kiriko. Ogawa is known for her asymmetrical designs with bold cuts and delicate patterns combined. While retaining the charm of gorgeous and elegant Edo Kiriko, her artwork with a sophisticated atmosphere is gaining attention both in Japan and overseas.
