I always have a reverence for the forms in nature and try to express this in my artwork. I make forms using curved lines and surfaces that exist in nature, and shape it so that it becomes even more beautiful when finished as a lacquerware piece.
View DetailAbout the Artwork
I used the seed of a plant called cerbera manghas as the motif of the form. I finished it using a technique called roiro shiage to give it a glossy finish. The inside is painted with black urushi lacquer and the outside is painted with red urushi lacquer.
