About the Artwork
I made masawari splits of Japanese timber bamboo and made a bundle of 20 bamboo splits on the inside. I then made 6 bundles and did a bundle weave to make flower petal forms. On the outside, I used 152 bamboo splits and wove them up using the circular weaving technique and expressed buds sprouting in spring on the side of the basket.

Plaited bamboo
Plaited bamboo basketry (amimono) is created by weaving together hundreds of strips of bamboo into patterns known as plaiting (ami). Various patterns and shapes can be created by using bamboo strips of different widths or thicknesses. The many styles of plaiting utilize bamboo’s pliability to produce beautifully patterned works.
