About the Artwork
I learned the technique of creating designs by cutting wide bamboo strips from the late Shokosai Hayakawa V in 2006, and I wanted to use this technique in my artwork someday. I assembled smoked bamboo strips, used this technique, and completed this piece after going through a trial and error process. I was very grateful to be able to use a rare 200 year old bamboo, and used its natural color without shaving the bamboo bark. I made this piece with the image of a boat drifting leisurely on the sea and named it "Float".
