About the Artwork

As I thought the fine spots of the Jindai elm wood and Jindai oak wood were beautiful like rocks, I wanted to make a simple form using this material. When the box is opened, there is a box made of ebony wood and sycamore inside. I found the Jindai elm wood that I used in this piece six years ago in Otoneppu Village, Hokkaido where I was living at that time. It took me days to cut the wood with a wood saw. I was quite exhausted, but it was a good experience.
