Comment on Award
The Japanese title of this piece, "zuika" is the eulogistic name for "snow", and it also has the meaning of an auspicious flower signaling a bountiful harvest.
I thought of this design from a snowflake, thinking about the snowy landscape in my hometown Niigata. The design is a combination of a snowflake and a flower. I wove a continuous hexagonal pattern in the middle of the vessel and bound the rattan aligning the linear strips in the pattern of a flower.
I have been encouraged by this award and will continue to work hard to spread the charm of bamboo crafts to more people. Thank you very much.
