About the Artwork
I have painted an arabesque pattern on black and red before, but this time, I painted on a blue base with platinum and gold. I feel I was able to express the dignified presence of the arabesque pattern which I was unable to do on a black or red base.

Techniques Used
Chinkin
For chinkin (“sunken gold”), a chisel or knife is used to incise lines and dots into a lacquered surface. Gold leaf or fine gold powder is then inlaid into the grooves, creating a fine and delicate design.
