About the Artwork
I engraved lines like the outline of a six-petaled flower on the rims of the dish. I engraved each line by placing the knife while eccentrically rotating the vessel. I repeated this six times to make the flower-like outline. As I could not see the surface I was carving during the eccentric rotation, it was difficult to carve all the lines in the same way.

Techniques Used
Wood turning
In wood turning (hikimono), a piece of wood is rotated on a lathe and shaped with various cutting tools. Wood turning is suited to the creation of round trays, containers, and bowls. Different blades and cutting angles can be used to produce a wide range of forms. Balanced, symmetrical forms are made by spinning the lathe at a constant speed.
