About the Artwork
"It is now spring as the bracken by the waterfall where the river powerfully flows down the rocks are budding."
written by Prince Shiki, 8th book of the Manyoshu Vol. 8
I made this piece being inspired by this poem. I expressed the sparkling water surface of the river with the ripple marks of the horse chestnut wood, and the water trickling down the rocks (waterfall) by shaving the ends. By carefully polishing the urushi lacquer during the wiped urushi process, I created a bright and fresh spring-like color tone.
