Woodblock Printed Sarasa Kimono "Blue Cluster"
- Textiles
- Presented in 2023
- Not for Sale
I used the leaves of Japanese silverleaf as the motif of this design. As I was sketching, it started to rain and get chilly, which is why the colors became blue and gray. I want those who wear this kimono feel the season and feel comfortable as if Immersing yourself in nature.

Producing textiles using a technique called mokuhanzuri sarasa (printed cotton) where woodblocks and paper stencils are used. My grandfather, Teruji Suzuta, who for many years studied and clarified Nabeshima sarasa that had been discontinued in Saga and made modern sarasa patterns based on his sketches, named this dyeing technique. I myself make designs based on sketches and aim to bring out the charm of sarasa that can only be made with woodblocks and paper stencils.
