Artist Comment
The theme of this piece is ”Guko", one of the characters in gigaku, an ancient masked dance. I made this with the image of the sound of a flute being heard deep in the morning mist hoping that this piece will show that making things with sincerity in this world where the future is uncertain like a foghorn sounded by a ship in the fog, is the way humans should live from now on.
I used the same theme "Guko" for my artwork that received the New Artist Award at the 60th Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition. It was a challenge for me to work on the same theme after 10 years, so I am very happy to have received this award. I will continue to explore the world of dolls and do my best to pass on the Japanese traditional culture to the future. Thank you very much.
