About the Artwork
I created this piece specifically for exhibition, serving as a culmination of the techniques I have cultivated throughout my career.
The iron content in the Daido clay reacted with the glaze, naturally giving rise to a striking band of scarlet patterns.
The contrast between the rounded body and the narrow neck imbues the work with a sense of quiet dignity.

Hagi ware
Hagi ware is a type of pottery predominantly made around the cities of Hagi, Nagato, and Yamaguchi in Yamaguchi prefecture. Vessels are made with Daido clay, Mitake clay, and Mishima clay. The resulting stoneware is rarely decorated with motifs, as the texture and qualities of the clay are key points of visual interest that appeal to tea ceremony practitioners.
