About the Artwork
Probably because I grew up in a prefecture with no sea, I am attracted to water. I made this piece to express the beautiful movements and strength of water. I placed the wave patterns in three parts to express the energy of the whirling water. I used the tomoe design, a traditional comma shaped design, to express the movement of the whirling waves without using swirls. I used my original takaori line construction method which I thought of to make ridge lines in bamboo art, for the wave patterns. The ridge lines are made by folding the bamboo strips diagonally and lining up the folded parts.
