ARTISTS & ARTWORKS RELATED ”Hakata brocade”

Hakata Brocade (Hakata-ori) is a silk fabric produced in and around Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The techniques were introduced from Song (China) during the Kamakura period and developed through the years. The textile weave created by weaving thin weft thread tightly into the thick warp thread is unique. It is also famous for being used to make obi sashes. A rustling sound produced from friction of the silk fibers can be heard when used, and it is very practical, as once the obi sash is tied, it won't loosen easily.
